Can you believe we are actually here? Summer! One of Canadas most cherished times! Along with summer we associate many things. Camping, swimming, fishing, canoeing, blah blah blah…lets get real here! We love these activities, but, we LOVE the main ingredient that makes all of these things amazing: THE SUN! In turn, we are proposing what makes us feel free as we reacquaint ourselves in form of style and hair.
It’s all about being comfortable with our natural beauty and feeling free. This is where our Spring Summer 17’ trends stem from. We will be proposing a series of fun and wearable looks within our collection this year. Referencing reliable sources but most of all the looks coming from our own creative ideas. Let’s will jump right into the fun!
Showing off that pink & lavender pastel!
As we all know the balayage/ombre looks are here to stay and are in full effect for who want a natural look. These looks are also created for people that like to be more daring and love fantasy colours. Our proposal this season is “natural meets fantasy”. We took variations of blending methods and incorporated them with silver-blonds and pastel colours. The incorporation of braids to create a bohemian look is very big this season as well. Deriving from people going to music festivals to people using braids for convenience at the gym. Keep reading to find out why pastel colours suite you more than you would think…
PASTEL PERFORMANCE
Look created by Pino. 50’s inspired pompadour
The wonderful thing about pastel colours is that they give your skin tone the immediate illusion of a tan. Just think about why people go lighter. The visual of a blonde with no gold tones in will suite almost every skin tone. Add a muted colour (pastel) to this and you are generally still a high lift blonde looking like you just got back from a quick 3 day getaway in the Bahamas.
Pink & Lavender Crossroads
Our first model (Emily) is what hair colourists consider a rare gem. This means that she has natural virgin hair and has never coloured it! Since we are working with such a great palette (Natural level 6-7) we had the opportunity to create pastel colours. The pastels formed from a silver shadow root and went into a pink and lavender. To achieve this we had to lighten Emily’s hair as light as we could past a pale yellow. As you can see in the pictures we created the shadow root first and then applied our pastel using a balayage technique. The pastel lavender was placed around the nape area so that when she braids her hair both pastel colours will intertwine with each other and create a boho meets fantasy look. There are endless ways of showing off these colours. Soft waves so the lavender can peek through, straight, so you can see the seamless blend of the shadow root.
Ever dream of rose gold hair? It’s been a while since we’ve posted any colour transformations lately. So I thought we should go for a big one! This picture below shows Magdalena and her dark mahogany violet hair. We wanted to go for a shadow root or balayage concept for easy maintenance. This technique would make it easy for colour touch-ups until the blend grows farther down and is needed to get painted up again.
Before the 4.5 hour process
It took us a while but we got it!!!
Suitability
Magdalena has fair skin with warm tones so we decided to keep the colour quite warm still. Rose gold hair is perfect for her! I’ve always pictured her as a blonde, therefore, anything lighter than her natural (light ash brown) would suit her AND compliment her skin tone. We decided on a rose gold with a metallic reflexes so that the colour would shimmer in bright lights. In order to achieve something like this you need to take out almost all of the warmth and bring it to a light blonde. The lighter we lift, the more of the metallic reflex will be shown.
Technicals
With an opportunity like this transformation I decided to use Olaplex formula to protects Magdalenas’s hair. Olaplex is known amongst the hair industry as the catalyst of healthy hair during a drastic colour change. In other words, your hair won’t be on the ground after you achieve your six level lightening jump. We add this product within our lightener to keep the hair bonds strong. It also comes with a treatment mask to rebuild the internal strengthening bonds of the hair. If you are interested in doing a change like this or any type of drastic change then call in and book a consultation with us so we can create a game plan!
We had to capture the emotional middle stage of this process
Toning Magda’s hair was just too much fun! I used Maraes colour from Karaal to get the shadow root and for the rose gold I used a combination of Maraes and Pravana. I prepared half of the Pastel Lavender and Pastel Coral.
I’m sure everyone is ready to reduce the layers of clothing weighing us down from the long winter; fret not, it’s time to bring in the summer flavours. We all know that the way we dress begins with our hair and this season is no exception. The high end designers play a big role in how the hair is conjoined with the clothing presented on the runway.
Joseph Alturazza Knows What Women Want
Altuzarra is a designer that I wanted to mention quickly; he has been proving himself quite often in recent years. One of Joseph Alturazza’s goals is to make the sophisticated modern women feel seductive, strong and confident. This description of his modern women is perfect for the low ponytail because it gives enough confidence to sweep across the boardroom as she walks in. The low pony is such a quick and easy style to perform, even from home, you will be able to master it in no time (if you haven’t been doing this already!) Comb all of your hair back towards the nape of your neck while not worrying about the wispy strands that will fall, this will aid in providing a youthful look to the low pony. Wiggle the pony from left to right before securing it at the nape to create a soft finish. Secure with a hair elastic and spray with Brilliante Glossing Spray from Kaaral. Its as simple as that!
The “Trend Cycle”
Trends tend to blossom every season for many different reasons. The inspiration for new trends can come from art, designer clothing, architecture, environmental movement, fashion week, celebrities and many more! I have my own philosophy on the “Trend Cycle”. I believe that the cycle begins from one of the outlets I’ve mentioned. Once someone with a great representation of style (editorial hairstylists, platform hairstylists, creative directors,..etc) proposes these trends through their work, people will start seeing them in the magazines and streets of larger european cities. There is quite a long process for these proposals to get across the pond to North america. If they do, it’s usually because a celebrity starts rocking a new style presented to them by their hairdresser/image consultant. The last part of the “Trend Cycle” involves the general public being exposed to any form of media or browsing through the magazines and deciding on a new style to take on. My favourite outlet to gather inspiration for use with clients is Pinterest.
Waves For Days
The aforementioned trends evolve from season to season. The natural ombre is still going strong and its decline is not foreseen anytime soon. Additionally, the long, lazy beach /wave is still quite popular going into SS14, although we do respectively think it has lasted a bit too long for its time and we hope to find the new, hot style very soon. As the waves continue, there are still impressions ready to be made with these waved designs:
Alberta Ferreti shows messi braids mixed in with some waves. Easy and fun!
For more of a wild mood, tighten those curls up and add volume with a strong hairspray (Luminous Hairspray). Accessorizing the look with a pin adds a nice touch.
Creatures of the Wind 2014 by Jennifer Weatherhead Harrington showed an asymmetrical look. All you have to do is wave your hair and pull it into a pony tail and pull out one of the side sections in the front
The bohemian vibe is still being rocked! Try crimping the top sections for a contrast in textures
Hair extensions can be the most natural looking. Silk tresses and long luscious waves can be summed up as soft, sexy and irresistible. Truly, your hair can be “a woman’s glory”. Why is good hair such and important aspect of a woman’s appearance? Self-worth, social acceptance and beauty all seem to be tied into every woman’s hair. What can you do with your hair, you may ask? You can tie it, you can braid it, color it, perm it, wave it, curl it and of course straighten it.
As of recent, you can also add volume, add length and add different colors. We are talking about hair extensions. In North America, we often look at celebrities for hair trends and what we observe is mostly long beautiful shiny hair. Interestingly enough, Europeans watch the fashion runways for hair trends and direction.
So, for those of us who want glamorous and sexy hair…what do we do to get it? Its not as difficult as you may think.
Great Lengths
Since there are so many extension techniques available out there we decided to talk about the best system available; Great Lengths. When you talk about having hair extensions in for up to 6 months then we assume that you would want the best quality. Great Lengths hair extensions will give you the most manageable and ease of styling. Some clients find the extensions are easier than their own hair to work with. The style lasts longer because of the quality of the hair.
Getting Inside the Hair
Hair extensions from Great Lengths are made from 100% Indian virgin hair with natural texture. Great Lengths utilizes only “remy” hair which means that the cuticle layers are all facing the same direction from root to end and, therefore, do not tangle. This also ensures that the extensions behave exactly like your own hair, blending in superbly with yours and looking super natural! The polymer bond mimics the human hairs’ molecular structure acting like a glue. This method utilizes heat to soften the bond so the bond can be moulded to the group of natural strands that the bond is attaching to. Therefore, this method is virtually impossible to detach from your hair. It is also great for growing out an existing style or to create an entire new look instantly! Add highlights or blocks of color without having to bleach or damage your own hair as well!
Maintenance
To maintain a consistent service for the client, Great Lengths makes sure that the extensions are only done by fully licensed hair stylists who have completed the certification program and that the salons are approved to keep it a professional company. Meaning no “basement salon” can offer this system. If your dream has been to have long luscious locks or beautiful volume and shine, come in for a consultation and have this dream become a reality.
Have you ever had a dream in which you never wanted to wake up? That was the main theme of the Angelo Seminara’s collection yesterday at the Metro Academy in Toronto. Mackenzie, Yesy and I represented our Pino’s Salon team with much anticipation and excitement. Award winning Seminara “British Hairdresser of the the Year” took the stage to show us his fabulous and dreamy new fall 2012 hair collections.
We noted that Seminara’s styles are based on classic looks updated by dusty colors, custom shapes and textures. Almost like an Alice in Wonderland theme, this collection brings seductive, feminine and nude looking tones in hair color. It represents a modern woman that is bringing forth something that has been inspired by the past. Seminara loves the element of dreaming, In turn, this image of dreaming provides unity in color and shades. “We have to be able to dream in life and to come up with all this beautiful work” he says. We cut and style the hair in a certain way or have specific techniques but for Seminara it’s about opening up your mind in order to seek the unknown. This is what unleashes the creativity!
Architecture is a major part of how trends are born in modern hair dressing. A video of modern Parisian structural designs was shown during the presentation. The buildings had classic Parisian designs with a great modern feel. I felt that Seminara’s proposals were very relevant to this architecture because they combine both the classic and fresh designs.
Mirroring our belief in using natural products Seminara also agrees that staying away from plastics and silicone is the direction our industry needs to embrace. Our Pino’s Salon team loves that we can provide clients with new products and services like ammonia free color, pareben free and gluten free products. These are gentle for the clients’ scalp and hair and are very enjoyable also for the professional stylist to use. More and more we are conscious of the environment and how the planet is impacted by the use of harmful chemicals. Not only do these harmful toxins cause problems in our bodies but they have a huge impact on our earth. New methods of doing hair promotes this type of natural movement.
Striving towards excellence means that you constantly seek new and better ways to make the clients’ experience superb! Affiliating ourselves with suppliers and educators that continue in their search also for excellence keeps us inspired, excited and moving forward…with…and for our client! Healthy and shiny hair with an element of fun can certainly be achieved. Dare to dream.
